REGENLAB:
New Cartographies of the Creative Cities
YOUTH EXCHANGE
under the action 1.1. of the
youth in action programme
The Youth Exchange “REGENLAB – New Cartographies of the Creative City”, that will be held in Porto, Portugal from the 1st to 12th October 2009, is an activity that plans to get together 25 young people (also young creaters and artists) from different countries (France, Lithuania, Latvia, Spain and Portugal) and cultures interested in urban issues in all its dimensions – social, politic, economical, architectural, artistic, cultural and patrimony.
The main question of this project refers to the potential of creative cities as an urban regeneration model. Within this workshop, we expect to contribute to Porto city regeneration throught a new look. That is, the idea is to exploite the city “cartographies” as a methodology to build new mental maps of the urban territory in question.
With an interdisciplinary approach, the participants will contribute in a theoretical plan by expressing their social realities and sharing good practices and models from their own countries but also in a experimental and practical sphere by debating ideas and experiences, contacting with local population (throught walking in the city and descovering it´s movement in space) and collaborating with professionals in areas such as architecture, performing arts, visual arts, social and politic sciences and sociocultural animation. The final result of this workshop will be presented with an exhibition and interventions in the public space.
Taking as great objective and concept the regeneration of an urbane area, situated in the frontier of Oporto down town and following the itinerary of an intervention and program that will endure three years long, including different actors and agents, we present a proposal for the realization of an European Exchange of young architects and architecture students from four European countries: Portugal, France, Spain, Lithuania
“REGENLAB”, defined as an event connected with the city, architecture, city planning has like main objective working with architects and architecture students, stimulating the crossroad of public and the involvement of the population. This exchange will be the first approximation to a biggest project of intervention in the area, having an eminently cultural character, of reflection and provocation; Unrolling of activities will happen in our installations in the Espaço IMERGE, in Oporto and they will be an architecture workshop, that will count with the presence of architects / investigators.
